Fujimamas Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Kailua Kona
My husband and I will be visiting the Kona side next month and were curious about this place for a special evening. We are sushi fans and looking for good options. Thanks!
Enjoy the day! Ann

Fujimamas has been out of business for about two years in Kailua-Kona, but it wasn't a real Japanese restaurant, it was more of like a fusion restaurant. The best sushi is at Hayama, which is located at the back of Kopiko Plaza, just below the Longs Drug Store. You might want to check out the restaurant reviews at

Thanks Sam, John and Devany! Funny how quickly things change, I was just reading a review about Fujimamas and it must have been out dated as it was written about the one in Kona. Glad I asked instead of heading off in search of. :-)

Don't feel bad, I did eat there several times but it was so inconsistent that I stopped going there. Apparently, so did everybody else, that's why they closed about two years ago. They took over the former Edelweiss place in Waimea and opened there in June(?) but if they don't fix the problems they had here in Kona than they won't last long in Waimea either.

I've eaten twice at the 'new' Waimea location...both times were slower periods, one early dinner and one late lunch. Both were positive experiences and the service was quite good--especially at lunch. Hope they make it--it's a nice location there. (I usually pass by that way at least once a week in the evening. Seems the parking lot is generally full at dinner, so that is a good sign!)

We have some friends who have been to their wine dinners and raved about them. They really thought that the pairings were excellent. They also had a saki tasting
