HPP Robbery- Paradise and 8th on Friday
#1
My neighbor Joann came by to inform us, that she had been robbed yesterday, after she had left for work at 5 a.m.. They stole her lap top and t.v. and some other stuff. Joann has a fenced in yard, the locks were intact, so, the thieves had to have handed the items over the fence.

The saddest part is that they even stole her 4 month old black and white spotted puppy dog 20#, answer by the name of Nikki. Nikki has on a blue collar, so,please, if anyone see's Nikki, call Joann 982-7167

That's very sad. Pretty much my nightmare having my laptop stolen (note to self: back up photos again/1), and her puppy? That's over the top. Lots of sympathy to her!

It would be nice if you could correct robbery to "burglary." A robbery occurs when the victim is present, so news of a robbery is frightening because of the danger.

Thats truely sad. How can someone steal a puppy? How low can theives go? I'm an animal lover and I can feel the pain this woman must feel about her dog. The electronics stuff can be replaced..But she just started loving this cute and adorable young pup.

No doubt it must have been a purebred because they get big money for those dogs. I would be checking the people selling dogs across from safeway to see if it shows up.

And when you find the miserable bastard that stole the dog, run over the sob 6 times to be sure, then back up to see what you hit by accident, parking on his chest preferably.

Another sad story, and I'm sorry to say that stealing pets is not at all unheard of. This is part of an alarming increase in burglary in HPP, but that is not exactly news any more. The thing about the gate locks being unbroken is not new, either. I know of a number of cases were burglaries, construction site thefts, and thefts from cars have been accomplished by entry on foot from the rear of the lot. The perps take only portable, high value items and make their getaway through the woods without ever even appearing on the road in front of the victims' houses. One construction site was victimized so often that the criminals had actually worn a trail through the woods to the next road over. They apparently stole a truckload of lumber and not one, but two, catchment systems by carrying them away piecemeal like ants.

Neighborhood Watch is your friend. Contact us at HPPWatch@aol.com. This sort of spree has been really good for recruiting, but frankly, I would rather get new members some other way. Waves of all sorts, including crime waves, eventually subside, and then complacency will set in once again. Until the next one, anyway.

That is a horrible thing to happen! No neighbors around her house? It is so sad how low some scumbags will go. We will keep a look out for the dog, but it would be great to have a description which could also be sent in to vets offices (breed, markings, photo). If the dog was valuable or came here from the mainland, it probably also has a microchip, which she can register with the PD and Vets. Of course if the thieves sell the dog and then some unsuspecting person takes her to the vet, it will be a doubly sad tale. If we knew the breed we could all be on the look out for a puppy for sale on Craig's List, newspapers and on the side of the road. Let's see, Nicky... blue collar? We don't even know the sex of this puppy! That would be helpful too.

Jerry, you are doing good work.
Are there still enough construction sites for these losers to make a living? What about bank owned/foreclosed homes? Are those a target? I'm not being flip; it's something I've wondered about.

whalesong: you can change the heading by pressing the edit icon (the pencil) and editing the title.
It's common to confuse the two, and maybe some don't think twice, but when I see robbery I envision "held at gunpoint" like actor Josh Holloway and his wife some years back.

Taking a living creature is about as low as you can go.

Those are not flip questions at all, Kathy. There are still a few construction sites (mostly owner-builder or contractor built for individuals,) but probably not enough for a criminal to make a living. Bank owned or foreclosed homes do get broken into, but there is usually little to take, so they often end up into the "forced entry with damage, nothing taken" reporting category. Sometimes water pumps and appliances do get taken from vacant homes, so those incidents can result in significant property loss. Far more damaging, IMHO, is the feeling of violation and loss one gets when one's personal space is invaded and personal/sentimental items are taken. The loss of a pet would push me right over the edge.
