Early November in Puna
#1
I am moving in the beginning of November in Seaview.
Before my container arrives,I'll be "camping" in my house..
What kind of weather is in early November in Puna( Seaview)?
What kind of clothes (things) should should I take?
I'd appreciate your advice.

by November it will be in the high 70's to low 80's (like it is most of the time)

Shorts, swimsuit, short or no sleeves, umbrellas (for trips into town), slippahs, one light jacket & a pair of light pants (this is what you need all year round, so there really is no big difference... if you want want to go to the lava flow, more durable pants & shoes...up to Mauna Kea for the star gazing - a fleece top & jeans & socks & shoes will do.

A nice aloha dress or shirt, dress shorts, skirt or slacks is the most you need for any dress up occasion. Not much dress up stuff in Nov, just Black & White First Friday...UHH has student works, the play Armadeus & Instrument Ensemble concerts in mid-November... the Palace: http://www.hilopalace.com

ETA: Seaview SPACE has the Puna Men's chorus performance on Nov. 7: http://punamenschorus.org/Welcome.html

You may want to go to the Black & White First Friday (Nov. 6) in Downtown Hilo... it is a big party with galleries & stores open & all sorts of fun for the evening - so something black & white & fairly light & able to get wet if it rains...

If you want to go kayaking in Hilo Bay - swimsuit & sunscreen, snorkeling, add mask, fins & snorkel

Thank you,Kani& Carey!
My concern was possible cold nights in a sleeping bag in the house.
(I have tile everywhere).
I think you,Kani, mentioned that you had to wear "parka" in your house once?
Of course,we are at different elevation .

Hi - one thing for certain around here is the uncertainty of the weather! Usually you have to look out the window for the forcast unless there's a big storm coming! There have been Christmas Days at the beach in the hot sun and Christmas Days with cold rain. Usually in November tho, the night is a lot cooler than the summer nights but the daytime is not cold. Welcome to the Big Island!

If you would like to borrow an air mattress or futon for the interim, we have them at our house (and we are on way home for most anyone in Puna!)

Nights are best with a blankie or comforter & a nice matteress (even in the summer & in Kona, it does cool off almost every evening) - the coolness of the tile will creep into your sleeping bag.

Early November is good because you won't be overwhelmed by heat as you start your process.
This is an El Nino year so your chances of the Big Storm are lower.
I bought a house that closed in early November 2003 (in Papa`ikou), and that year it poured the months of November and December. I was painting the whole interior, and the paint would not dry! Lucky you don't have to expect anything like that. Congratulations on your pending arrival!
