Jay's Tapas Shuts Down
#11
Also noticed Jay will be participating in the Taste of Hawaiian Range and Agricultural Festival this Friday at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. http://www.starbulletin.com/features/200...foods.html

I hope Jay has found a great new home and has much success in his new endeavor! (Via coconut wireless, I understand there were some difficulties with the partnership arrangement at the old location.)

It sounds like he is moving into the corner of where the Palace Theater is. But it is not anywhere near finished.

Seems Hilo may have more eating choices soon. Anybody gone to the new French Crepe place over on Wainuenue ave? On the Waimea side of Bear's Coffee? They have a sign hung out and there were folks eating on the sidewalk tables lunchtime today.

I have not been to the Magic Pan, but the woman who owns it also sells crepes at various markets and festivals, so many of you may have had the crepes at those locations. They do have a sign at the restaurant featuring live music there. I have a couple of foodie friends who have been there and were not particularly impressed.

Well, I've tried the new Hilo Burger Joint twice and I have to say I was not impressed. Both times the fryer was out of order, so no fries with the burger, just chips or salad, which they told me only AFTER my order was already in the kitchen. The menu was limited to maybe 12 different burgers, I've tried two different ones, the mushroom cheese burger and something else so unremarkable I can't remember what it was. Neither trip was satisfying, the burgers were tiny, dry, and cold, the tomatoes were anemic, the mushrooms were mostly stem, and without fries I left hungry both times. Plus my drink was really watery, how do you ruin a rum and coke?

I will stick with Cronies when I want a burger, the price is about the same, but the burger is bigger and better.

I love Cronies. One of the few places to get a really good burger, and their drinks are always great. I am so tired of paying for bad food, so we have it down to just a few places we go where the food has always been great.

We did try the old Harringtons a couple days ago as we heard it was good again with the new owners. I had the deep fried Prawns, and it was delicious, just soda to drink as I was driving but it at least had the fizz in it and was not flat. So they go back on my list of places to go. Yummy!!!

Cronies is downtown in Hilo, Bayfront area on the corner of Wainuenue, I think. Generally I park somewhere and walk to it, so I know where it is when I am downtown, just never really thought about the address on it. Just know the decor is not perfect, it is a sports bar type of place. I only go their because I love the food and drinks. They have really good buckets of deep fried onion rings also. I have never had a bad meal there, but, now that I say that, who knows. The prices are not low, but I would rather pay more knowing that we get good food there, than go someplace else and pay even more for terrible food, and we have done that so many times since moving here years ago I just have all but given up.
