Weather stations

This is a link to a locat weather station for me. Half way down the page are the Air Quality Control results per day.

When you visit the wunderground for Hilo and Kailua Kona these same measurements are not shown. Here is that link

Everywhere I have searched the air quality information is available except Hawaii.

Question is where do you find up to date AQ information.

Mahalos plenty.

Hi,
Best place I have found has nothing to do with State. Many of their monitors are not working all the time. NOAA instead. They have SO2 and particulate satellite monitors. Usually when I feel really sick, I check and we are "in the red". Check the column that says "cloud" and it will show how much of the area was scanned. AI is particulate.

Something interesting. I have always had normal blood pressure. My husband lower than that. We both had very high blood pressure the last several times we have been to a Dr. So have other friends that have normally had low to normal blood pressure. These are people ages 30 something to 60. I googled SO2 and high blood pressure and guess what. Bingo. Not a good thing to be exposed to for a long time. Cryopod anyone?

Shekpal, Thanks. That is a great site and I like the map graphics , I put it on my desktop. We rarely get the vog up here North of Hilo, but when it looks even a little hazy I like to check. Never had an adverse reactions even when over in Kona where it is bad almost every afternoon, but I do like to know if we have unhealthy air conditions anywhere on the island.

That is interesting about the high blood pressure. Adverse conditions to the human body can cause more havoc than we give them credit for. My husband's blood pressure went down significantly after moving here and mine went down a little, though mine is below average anyway. Do you notice this when you have been exposed for a few days at a time or is it immediate?

Where are you located that you are getting all of this S02?

One thing about the Vog, it can come and go at any time, dependent on Madame Pele and the winds. And if the volcano is in a resting period, then it will not be an issue at all. We just "never know". I have talked to people on Oahu who get horrible vog when there are Kona winds. I was a bit surprised that it would not dissipate over the distance.

I usually go to the USGS webcam at Halemaumau first. If the plume is blowing to the right, it's gonna be a good day, left means vog.

Absolutely right on the webcam. Check there first. The plume is the SOURCE of the SO2! So don't look at the data. Check the plume itself. When it is blowing away from the camera, as it usually is, that's good! When it blows toward the camera....very bad! By the way, the webcam is completely black at the moment. I take that to mean that the top of Kilauea has completely blown up in a cataclysmic eruption that has melted all tourists at the summit, leaving only the prints of their tennis shoes and Bass Weejuns as evidence of their previous existence.
