Aloha everyone, Some dear friends are keeping an eye on our place in our absence, so when we get back on-island in a couple of weeks, we'd like to take them out to a really nice dinner. We'd sure appreciate suggestions any of you would have as to where we might take them. Mahalo, Dee

I was treated to lunch at Pescatore on Thursday. The shrimp scampi alfredo was very tasty. We got chicken parm as well and split the meals between us. It was served with a side of pasta in pesto.
The oil paintings were charming too - copies of Van Gogh's Sunflowers and Monet's Water Lilies among others. Nice to have a meal with a linen table cloth and a little atmosphere once in a while! Be sure to look up at the ceiling in the main dining room for a step back in time. The paper napkins were a little disappointing. (Carrie gets a little snooty...)
I'm told the prices double for dinner, fyi.
We also like Hilo Bay Cafe from burgers to more gourmet fare...and Kaleo's in Pahoa has your choice of fish cooked how you prefer (I like blackened Ono) on a bed of field greens. It comes with their signature citrus dressing - OH BOY. Try the ganache - very decadent and not for the faint of heart! LOL
Cafe Pesto has always been a favorite - but don't go when you're too hungry 'cause the service is really slooowwwww. They do have a good variety of items, however.

Carrie...Thanks so much for the suggestions! Pescatore's sounds great. BTW, I sure do hope you get the situation with your house resolved! Dee

For what it is worth, I have had meals at Pescatore that were truly great and meals which were virtually inedible. I think it must depends on the chef because the meals at our table were either all good or all bad. Lunch has been particularly uneven. Since chefs usually work a consistent schedule and Carrie had a good meal on Thursday I would go on a Thursday.

I'll second that about Coconut Grill! Holy Smokes was it expensive last time we were there. The food was good, but not worth the prices for sure!
Thanks for your kind wishes, Dee.

I second Kilauea Lodge, it's our special occasion/anniversary dinner place kind of pricey though. I also love Cafe Pesto. Angela
