The last few nights have been cold in Mt. View. Last night it got down to 57 degrees. Not a chirp was to be heard from the coqui frogs. It was so quiet that it woke me up. Normally it sounds like the Amazon rain forest at full moon outside my window. I'd like to think that the frogs hopped south for the winter but I know that they'll be back any day. Nice little break though.

They shut up and shiver when it's cold.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Same in HPP, I could only hear one or two frogs last night, and they were singing slower too: ko...kee, instead of kokee! I was tempted to go out and get them, to stop them passing on their cold-loving genes. But I couldn't brave those icy winds.

While the quiet during cold snaps is more pronounced, I have also noticed a drop in the noise level during prolonged dry weather. Anybody else notice this?
Cheers,

Definitely. In the Summer they quieten down because it's dry, in the Winter they let up because it's cold. They really go for it in the Fall and Spring.
