Is there a technical reason punaweb is running Snitz Forum Software?
Is there a technical reason punaweb is so slow?
Is there a technical reason punaweb does not allow any embedding of pictures or other media?
Is it a matter of resources? server? financial?

Punaweb is slow? Never noticed. It would be slower if people were able to embed pictures and videos,
and I'm thankful that's not the case. With so much of Puna on dialup, it's the ideal forum format IMHO.
There is a "Donate" button on the top right, if more people clicked on it then maybe Punaweb would go faster.

I dont think pressing donate will make it go any faster...

Moderator: I examined the freeware available some years ago and liked what Snitz had to offer. Some features that attracted me were continual archiving of posts so that old material could be referenced and eliminate (mostly) the need for the same questions and answers to be repeated endlessly. I also liked the editing feature. I like that people can edit their own posts and take their foot out of their mouth if they felt the need - and to edit typos - or to expand answers. A forum is not a deposition so it is not required to maintain a legal record.
Is there a technical reason punaweb is so slow?
Moderator: Slow is subjective. It will be a function of your browser, modem, content and internet service. Punaweb is a rather simple load for most computers. I cannot know why your experience might be considered by you to be slow.
Is there a technical reason punaweb does not allow any embedding of pictures or other media?
Moderator: No. There is no technical reason. The ability to do so is available. I have chosen to keep it turned off for three reasons: A) Many, if not most, of Puna is on dial-up service and heavy media loads can grind the forum load time down. B) I like the fact that people get to present themselves intellectually and are not prejudged or misrepresented by age, gender, appearance or whatever. C) while photos and files and videos might offer some limited attractions nothing on Punaweb prevents their use or access in other ways by link or whatever.
Is it a matter of resources? server? financial?
Moderator: Probably a little bit of each.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Wouldn't this topic have been better to just email Rob?
I have no complaints about the speed of Punaweb.
Cheers,
Sean

PW is plenty fast for me, but I'm on ethernet so everything is fast. I miss not having pictures, but I can follow links to pics, vids, etc, so no real problem.
I already owe too big a debt to PW (and Rob) for all the knowledge I've gotten, so I really can't ask for more!

808, . . . have any suggestions or complaints about any other FREE services that other people are organizing, paying for and allowing the public to use at NO CHARGE?
