Please, display your economic prowess for all the world to see by making just one testable prediction for 2010.

808, you do not speak of anarchism, you speak of the totalitarianism system of free market capitalism. If we continue to make it possible for some people to have more than others of finite resources you will never get rid of the greed.
To keep this on topic, the only way to predict the future is if the present stays the same. I wish to make the future as unpredictable as possible, something so foreign no one can see it coming. All of you who were predicting the future, that depresses me, because it means you are actually predicting that nothing fundamental will change.

I think the only fundamental difference you and I actually have, is more on the nature of man/humanity than anything.
your first paragraph is right on target. that is why i dont shy away from trying to blend these issue into punaweb, we are so intimately tied to some of these issues, its like people are puppets but they just got so used to the strings, they think the strings are "freedom strings" and they celebrate them and talk about how great there freedom is. HA, slave you are not free, this is america, we are now one big plantion for the slaves, and one big casino for the masters...

I've made my prediction, and it's quantifiable. I've got the modesty to predict that in spite of the fact over the last decade I've made a very significant portion of my income in investment speculation, including last year following "incorrect" projections--I don't think I can pull any off this year. When it comes to valuing projections YTD yields that number is the only one I personally care about, but I've got the good taste not to ask people how well their guesses have worked out for them. Sure, by your measure "wrong," by mine--well I couldn't have been more pleased. You're welcome to play your own personal game; others may be less interested. In disclosure, I've completely sold out now and have taken a vacation. In all modesty, my projection was and is that I've not the insight to make accurate projections for this year. So I won't. I'll leave that glory up to others. Who knows, maybe I'll be wrong about that too, and I'll actually make one that turns out to be correct. . .I'm sure you'll be the first to point that out. LOL.
Come on, there's a difference between a fight and a conversation. A fight is two people each trying to personally win. A conversation is two people attempting to mutual move towards a greater understanding of the issues at hand. I'm all about the later. These are serious issues and they're of importance to a lot of people. I'm doing my best in good faith to attempt to keeps what are difficult and frightening topics for many as constructive as possible. I'd appreciate a hand in that. These issues matter. Bad projections in personal lives have cost many plenty--at our state and local levels our teachers and kids especially have been clobbered hard by bad budgetary projections. We're very likely to face even greater revenue shortfalls this year than last, and it's important to think about how to deal with that. (whoops, a projection.) We as individuals will need to pick up the slack and it's a shame to let petty ideology get in the way of preparing for this inevitable task.
That's about enough of that. Now I'll go back to discussing how to grow green tea with the radical revolutionaries. . .

This thread is meant for predictions. If you have a reason for not making predictions then that's all very fascinating but not so interesting here.
If you're not willing to make a prediction, then please don't keep repeating how great you are at predicting things.
Especially if your only testable prediction for this year was wrong.

Paul, you keep repeating a misrepresentation of the details. My prediction was wrong and only wrong in the absolutest context you've chosen to cherry pick your winners and losers. By that very very agenda laden characterization, sure, I'm wrong. But absolutest projections are of near no utility when meaningfully discussing economic issues. It's akin to characterizing someone who, when asked "when the bus shows up to head to Hilo" says "usually between 3 and 3:30" is wrong when the bus shows up at 3:40 Wrong, in an absolutest sense of course, but exactly the information one needs to board the bus. In fact, conservatism in the estimate is valued as good advice in such cases, as "you need to get on the bus." Now you're welcome to characterize my prediction in your absolutest context, but it's a pretty useless characterization. How different the result would be if you asked the question " Who gave the economic advise, which if followed, would have netted an individual the greatest economic gains for the year?." Actually, I'm very interested in how you'd spin than one off. At any rate. You might find it interesting to consider that side of the equation. That might make your position more balanced appearing. Ultimately I don't care if you can see that or not, as my reward's in the bank and I don't take your views personally as if I'm involved at all this year it will be short positions only and someone needs to be on the other side of the contract.

Yup, Glen, green tea grows great and there's a growing industry here in the crop. It's a fine potential cash crop suited to small homesteads and you'll be hearing much more of it.
