Aloha, My wife and I have purchased our lot in Vacationland and are ready to build. We decided to be owner/builders because we wanted to build at our pace. Not sure if this is wise.... Can you please share with me your thoughts?
We are building a modified Trojan design. I have contacts for septic, plumbing, electric, and foundation. I am looking for some experienced framers to bid on the job as well.
Any and all thoughts, ideas, or help is much appreciated.

I found this post interesting and was curious has anyone compiled a list or estimated list of building a home in the puna area. For myself I am getting ready to purchase land in the Puna area and have tons of questions. I think this would be a great source of information for people like myself and others wanting to build in the Puna area.
who what when where why and how type questions for each of the following (just off top of my head)and an estimated cost to each one or based on personal experiences
1. permits and permit process: John Rabbi addresses it good on his site
2. clearing the lot: who to contract, what needs to be done, when is best time to do, why clear only some or all, what do you do after, what does it cost etc etc etc
3. electric and steps to get it done
4. water catchment
5. Sewage
6. walls and/or gates
7. kit homes
8. TV/Intenet
9. Solar
10. Contractors and Subcontractors
I guess i am thinking if all the info and experiences could be gathered into one area (for example) "So you want to build in Puna"
oh well guess i am spending too much time on blogs and everyplace on the net looking for answers and just thought it would be great to have one consolidated location with info and experience or links to.

We created the "Building in Puna" forum for just this purpose. You may find, if you use the Search feature, a number of discussions of costs. Cost info gets dated though.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Already exists. Tons of discussion on all of your list right here "Building in Puna" forum. Several years worth. Just have to master the search function, read, then ask way for your particular circumstances. May not be a super concise, easy to read list, but then that kinda fits. Enjoy
