general construction costs
#1
Hi everyone -

Can anyone give me an idea of how much it would cost to clear an acre of land these days? (As much as I hate the idea of clearing, I will need an area to be able to farm/plant.)

Permits needed?

I paid $6,000 about a year ago. Before that I accepted an offer to do it for $3,000 - that guy was a waste of time/money and we had to do it a second time. (I recommend John's Land Clearing)

depends on your lot. If it has a lot of low spots and you want a flat "level" lot. You'll need to rip it. If so, it could cost a lot more. Also if you have any albezia trees on it (BIG ONES) KA CHING KA CHING! I suggest call earth karvers and getting a few quotes. Walk the lot and tell them your EXPECTATIONS. Smile

Ericlp, "KA CHING" is so correct with Albezias! How about $8000 for ONE tree. Wow! Any people looking to move here and buy land...don't get sucked into any lots that have big Albezias.

Youch Nana Valley!!! Good information! I will be on the lookout for the Albezias. Ericlp - I hear ya on the ripping. I hope not to have to do that... We should be able to build up on piers/foundation without impacting the ground THAT much... I'd rather make the adjustments in building...

Oh sh-ya! That there is one of the trees we like best for the looks... gosh darn... I guess if we are lucky enough to have such a great tree on the site, we'll just have to let her be...

Albizia are very weak trees because they grow so fast, also prone to toppling over in wind storms. As pretty as they are, they are also the last thing you want on your property. I've seen roofs and catchment tanks flattened by falling albizia in HPP.
