termites
#1
Hi, I was wondering if anyone in Puna has a suggestion for a termite company that they have used. Our home was not tented before we bought it, and I know we need to get that done soon. Thanks for your help!

Bowman's, nice office people, like the techs, like the owner -- in general more personal than Terminex.
Compare the post-tenting warranties.

We have used Terminex, as they were the company that the seller used & the warranty was in place when we bought... not tremendously 'user' friendly staff, & the office is really into add-on sales...but the tenting was good, & have already have had a follow=up tenting on the maintenance plan in 6 years

Neighbors have used Hilo & Bowman & liked the tenting job (they all do used the same chemicals & such...so it is mainly how you the personnel & the color of the tarps (just kidding), the scheduling & the fact there is a new company Veterns' that has been having some nice dollars off sales the last month or so... so you may save $$$ (even if you do not use the new guys on the block, you may get better pricing with a new competitor...

Thanks for responding Kathy H and Carey! Bowman (they sound really helpful on the phone) and Terminix are coming out today to give me an estimate. Since I have never had it done before, I don't even know what to expect for pricing. Guess I will find out!

We love our Terminex guys. They send one guy out for crawlie bugs and another for termites. Once you pass that your house is termite-free, you can be on their termite plan. They don't DO anything, but if you see evidence of termites, then they come out, confirm or not confirm, and if it IS termites, they treat. It's sorta like insurance that way. I like it for the peace of mind. The crawlie bug guy comes out every 3 months to spray. We've only had one treatment for that, and the guy was very sweet. Neighbor has used them for years and they love that guy, too. So depends on where you are what service person you get. We're lower HPP, 3rd and Maku'u. A wordof warning, the termite guy told me that if he goes to a house with wood stored under the house, it's pretty much a denial of service. Which tells you don't store wood under your house. Common sense, but still. The crawlie dude treats the first time he's out. Service for both crawlies and termites is $60 a month. I figure half that is for the crawlies, and that's what I was spending on Home Defense Max and spraying myself. still find the occasional dead 747 cockroach. Bleech!
