I tried to get Mazie's office to help me once with a Federal bidding problem once. Her staff took down all the information very politely and said they'd get back to me. Never heard from them again or got a call returned.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Rob:
I've heard that from several people, she just is not responsive. I knew her when she was a Rep in the House where she a great Rep. A lot of people in the Democratic Party are scratching their heads wondering what happened to her after she left the House, she is not the same person.
Here is a link to the Maui newspaper about her last debate with Case.

Mazie Hirono is the perfect embodiment of the old Hawaii political crony system. If you like the union domination and insider old boy (and girl) tradition, vote for her. Ed Case is a much better and more balanced option for Democrats. For you newcomers, don’t be fooled into thinking that the Hawaii Democratic establishment is “progressive.” It is fully invested in maintaining a dysfunctional status quo. Usually the truly progressive thing to do is to vote for a Democratic outsider like Case, or, failing that, a less toxic Republican. Linda Lingle, also in this race, may or may not repair her tarnished image and rise to the "less toxic" level she used to enjoy. She is well funded, though.

I agree with Rep. Hirono's positions on funding Social Security.
I can't support Ed Case. I won't support or vote for Ed Case.
The Maui News editorial is wrong, and I strongly disagree with the logic and argument that it attempts to make.

For those who haven't gotten responses when seeking help from Mazie, I'm sorry but did you pursue it when you didn't? I've had that experience occasionally when I've needed info from an official but I do realize I'm not the only person on the planet and I give a followup call, usually with positive results. Part of the reason I'm doing what I can to help Mazie is I've had nothing but excellent responses when I wasn't even expecting them; written followup when I'd call her office to say Please vote this way or that way on specific issues. I will display the letters I've gotten from her (they were emailed to me) on her votes on Afghanistan, medical care, and medical marijuana, on her masthead and the dates they were sent to me at the coffee hour. Do you ever check your junk mail to see if you got a response from her? That's a possibility, you know.
In addition, her voting record, IMHO, is the best! Ed Case voted for the Iraq war, he voted for the inheritance tax breaks for the wealthiest people in our country, and he voted to cut Social Security. We don't need a Blue Dog Democrat back in the House; we've already got enough greedy, heartless Republicans. Not only was he Bush's boy when he served in the House, he was the featured speaker at Republican gathering for potential candidates, briefing budding GOP candidates on how to run for office.

And by the way, Mazie does not have big funding behind her. The ones with big funding are Ed Case and Linda Lingle. The last time Ed Case ran for office, he inundated us with very expensive brochures mailed to us and numerous TV ads. Want to know what is said in the tiny print as to who funded Ed's campaign? It was the National Association of Realtors. This time around it's the realtors AND the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who are also funding Linda Lingle. Check the Campaign Spending reports!

I am a union member and fight for women's rights and I have written about many issues to Mazie and I do not get any a note of any kind. I am also a member of NOW. National Org. for women. I write weekly on many issues and Bills in the House and senate. I keep thinking Mazie will answer back at least one time. She has not. I have to vote for ED Case because he does answer and respond to the questions and letters and I respect that he does listen to the people of Hawaii. He was born here on the Big Island and he helps many people and he cares about what the people need not Big Business. He is a honest man and The Democtatic Party have not treated him fairly. His voting record has been miss stated by others. We need fact checkers to make the truth shown. If you really want Hawaii to Win you need to vote for ED Case he is a man for the People of Hawaii not a Big Pack group from the mainland like Linda and Mazie!!!! WE the People can rule again with Ed Case as our leader in THE SENATE!!!!

I'll say this once again because it actually happened to me: I called back to find out why when I did not get a response. Her office staff told me, we emailed you...did you check your junk mail? Well, this was a few years back and I wasn't used to regularly checking my junk mail, not realizing how many emails I wanted to receive ended up there because I didn't have the sender catalogued in my contacts. So they said they'd resend it and lo and behold, it ended up coming to my junk mail which I'd previously deleted daily. Now I check it every day before I delete.
I will put on display Sunday some letters I've received from Mazie (via email but on letterhead stationery) over the past 3 years. They were letters explaining her stance on issues I'd called her office about when Credo or MoveOn.org would alert me to a vote I might want to give input on. I hadn't even expected a written response but I really appreciated them when I got them, especially when she'd list the vote count.
Mazie's voting record on the environment, seniors, women's and children's issues, etc. is among the best in Congress. With the war the GOP has declared on women, including just earlier this month, every Republican congressman voting against equal pay for women, we need a Senator who is going to vote for the 99%, not try to guess if our Democratic representative is going to vote with the majority GOP like Case has done frequently. You have to check his voting record. Yes, he's a nice personable man on the campaign trail but his votes are what counts and he's more of a Republican than a Democrat. Not only that, but they've been circulating a program on the Internet showing Case as the featured speaker at a GOP function in which he addressed budding GOP politicians on how to run for office!
