Hokulani's is closing after tomorrow
#1
Sad to hear that Hokulani restaurant in Keaau is closing down after tomorrow. The staff just found out today. Really sad to hear that since we go there to eat all the time.

Me, too, sad, that is. It has been the setting for many of our favorite days here.

That is really rough on the staff, I worked in a lot of restaurants over the years and it is a really bad sign when they tell you the day before that the place is shutting down. I hope everyone gets paid, failing restaurants are notorious for not giving notice to staff so suppliers don't cut off credit. I didn't get paid for the last pay period at a few jobs when restaurants folded, it wasn't too bad for the wait people, but all of us in the kitchen crew counted on those paychecks to eat and pay rent. In this economy an lot of people are just one missed paycheck away from being homeless.

Oh no! I love that place! Nice to sit outside with a cooling breeze! I hope someone else can take it over.

It seems like a great location for attracting customers, and yet it's the 3rd restaurant that has failed there since I've been here. Is it location or something else at work? I only ate at Hokulani's once and wasn't impressed so never went back. Still, I feel bad for the employees and hate to lose another business. The restaurant gig is a tough one indeed.

I hate to see any Mom and Pop type business fail, but honestly, I am not surprised that Hokulani's did not make it. We gave it three chances and they were all disappointing. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things. They did give us large portions of not very good food!

We started going there in 1991 when it was a cute little Mexican restaurant. I can't remember if the food was good....but it was nice to be able to get a great Margarita while doing my wash[Big Grin]Since then, we have seen it go through many transitions over the years. Can't wait to see what is next.

I think its just the local economy. McDonalds across the street is packing them in all day long.
