Okay, so we are driving up to my moms at about 9:30pm and there she is, I am sure you have seen her. She is old, skinny and has white hair. She is always hitchiking either to Pahoa or from Pahoa. She was hitching right pass oopu street last night. I know she lives somewhere at the end of either Hawaiian Shores or beaches. I am wondering who in the hell is in charge of this woman. I mean why in the world are they letting her hitch rides in the middle of the night from strangers. She is always bumming smokes and money from anyone she feels comfortable with. I am disgusted to see this poor old lady fending for herself with the age and health she is at. The care takers should be ashamed of themselves.

I am childless and my significant other is an only child. That means when we grow old, there's a good chance we won't have any caretakers. Not everyone has someone to watch out for them. Just taking the other side of the coin for debate's sake.

I am sure she does not live alone. Someone is caretaking her, I guess there in it just for the check they get monthly. Sad and very shameful!!

If you are so concerned, perhaps you should get to know her.

If this is the same woman who hangs around in Pahoa, I've spoken with her on several occasions and she was always rational and pleasant. Shared some Boogie Woogie pizza I had, with her once and she talked story a bit.

What makes you think she has a "caretaker?" She seems to know where she's going and gets there and back. I like what Lee suggests...get to know her. Share your lunch and talk story. Blessings.

Her name is Judy. She lives the way she does because that is her choice. Her mother and brother live in Vacationland and she could live with either of them if she so chose.
The residents of Vacationland watch after her mother and brother.

Judy is an emanicipated adult, living how she wants with the choices she has. Like Lee said, get to know her and quit stereotyping people as in need of caretakers!
