Classes started this week at the new Pahoa Senior Center. If you're 55 or older and enjoy yoga, drawing, painting, hula, Japanese, ceramics or making feather lei, you can find the schedule here:

I went to Dennis Leatherman's drawing and watercolor class today and recommend it highly. It's held every Wednesday from 11AM to 1:30PM. He teaches the same class in Keeau on Thursdays starting at 10:30AM. His wife teaches conversational Japanese at approximately the same times. If you're interested in these or any of the other classes, there is still room. Just show up at class. For the entire session, now through September 7, the charge is $10 per course, a real steal.
I don't work for the county - just thought some folks might want to attend but weren't aware that the Center is open for business.
