over-the-air TV channels in Orchidland?

A rooftop antenna would be the best solution in most cases. Up in Mountain View, an indoor antenna only receives PBS.

I went to Home Depot to buy an antenna and all I could find was the indoor variety. I bought a GE indoor antenna with a signal booster and now I get 4 HD channels in Orchidland (two PBS channels and two FOX channels). Is that all of them, or should I try an outdoor antenna to get more channels? Does anybody know where I can buy an outdoor antenna?

We were in Raio Shack a few months ago looking for an antenna and they said they didn't stock the outdoor antennas anymore even though they had a display up.
Lot's of options are available online.

The only one I ever purchased for use in Hawai`i, I purchased online. Just keep in mind, Terracore, that it's important that it is a VHF/UHF antenna, as half of the stations use High-VHF, and the other half use UHF.

Here in Seattle, they can't keep enough in stock!

I use these (db4's with an inline amp, db8 without) and get all the Hilo channels 'cept 14.1

Bought a db4 - found it ok but required precise aiming the db8 works very well on its own. Ended up using the db4 for the shop w/ one tv and the 8 with a adapter to run 2 tv sets at the house.

I noticed it's a UHF antenna. What about VHF? Or are there no VHF stations?

The government and FCC sold off all the vhf tv frequencies to the cell phone folks while you were not looking - grin

VHF is now old school - digital frequencies (4-1,4-2 .... 10.1 through 14-1 in Puna) are all about (what used to be) channel 35 on the UHF band.

I would not expect a check for the public frequencies that were confiscated anytime soon - grin

VHF frequencies were not sold off and are in use on the Big Island.

The following stations use VHF from Hilo:
KGMD (MyNetworkTV [KFVE] and ThisTV)
KHAW (ABC and MeTV)
KHVO (Fox & CW)

VHF represents 6 channels on the Hilo-side. UHF has 5 channels currently.

Bullwinkle, VHF has almost no value to cell phones and the wireless industry. The frequency is too low to be effective. They do have interest in UHF frequencies, however.

The channel 35 reference is not correct-- the only 2 stations currently using that frequency in Hawai`i are KHNL in Honolulu and a low powered station in South Point that relays Hawai`i Public TV. The company I work for has a permit to use UHF Channel 32 (and VHF channel 2) in Puna. Another company has a permit for UHF Ch. 34. Channels 22, 23 and 28 are active from Hilo, currently. There is no across-the-board migration to channel 35 in the United States.
