Puna geothermal in Hawaiian Airlines magazine
#1
The Aug/Sep issue of Hana Hou, the Hawaiian Airlines magazine, has a several page article about Puna and PGV. It's written to be introductory and a fundamental baseline about geothermal as mainly steam technology, considering the readership is mainly passengers on Hawaiian Airlines.

Not in this article, but geothermal power, almost everywhere else on this planet is about 10 to 15 cents per kilowatt-hour. The PGV rate as set by HECO is about 40 cents per kilowatt-hour. This HECO says, is due to the legal requirement of Avoided Cost Contracting requiring them to charge all electricity as if it were being produced by oil burning electric plants. The state recently removed the requirement for ACC but HELCO is not adjusting rates except upwards.
