What is this?
#1
can anyone tell me what this is? Most of the fruits are molding at thumb size.

But this one seems to be making it a bit longer? I have two of these trees.

A. Can anyone tell me what it is?
B. Can anyone tell me how to stop them from rotting at a small size on the tree
C. What do you do with it?

My neighbor that planted it said it's a Jackfruit. What does one do with jackfruit? And how do I stop the baby fruits from molding?

yep, looks like a jackfruit. they have male and female fruits and the ones further from the trunk seem to mold and fall, while the good ones closer to the trunk will grow to full size. it seems to help if you think out the branches a bit. but if the sausage shaped ones mold and fall off it is ok or doesnt seem to affect the larger fruits from developing in my jak trees..

the pulp of the fruit is sticky, & slightly custardy sweet... but REALLY sticky...there are a bunch of ways to cut the sticky from your hands, lips, tongue.....I have found that some are better than the sticky, some are not...

The seeds are OK raw, but much better boiled (pretty much like boiled peanuts when boiled, but not as crunchy/flavorful as peanuts when raw...more grainy/starchy)

I have two jackfruit trees. The moldy ones are from the male flowers. The female flower will get bigger and turn into a delicious fruit.

Personally, I would consider that as famine food.

If you have chickens they would really appreciate you jumping on top of it and smashing it open for them to devour. You'll be surprised how quickly they eat it if you "soften it up a little".

Actually, the taste of the pulp "kernel" around the seed is rather like a mild cross between juicy fruit & the pink bubble gum (and there can be hundreds of kernels & seeds in the monster fruits)... and most of the ones I have had are soft like a firm custard, but some have a firmer texture... also has a lot of nutrients... not really a famine food, but it is really sticky, really really sticky to get at the kernels.... wiping everything that could get the sticky with vegetable oil helps....

The whisker like mat can also be tasty, but has more fiber... the mat & peel are often given to animals (many dogs love to chomp on the mat) as a tasty nutrient booster...

I'm curious why I have so many moldy male parts and almost no female parts (fruits). Is there anything I can do to encourage more female growth?

Also, how do you know when it's ripe?
