This news is about the BI but none of the local newsfeeds seemed to pick up on it. Seems like the unanswered question is where they are going to get their water from.

I'd like to see more small farm/4H type activities (especially non-gov funded programs). There are plenty of people out of work, so being labor intensive (as stated in the video) is a non-issue IMHO. I understand the laws of scalability that are emphasized in large industrial farming operations, but I think we've put too many of our eggs in that one basket and a small farm diversity idea would spread the risk of systematic vulnerability and allow something more sustainable. As stated in the video I think the lack of skills/education for this type of work by our society is a real weak link in the system that is easily fixed.
I know Parker Ranch in the past has supported this type of program (land procurement for self support) for it's working hands.
