New parking lot shipman end of Beach Rd.
#1
About a month or so ago a new cleared land parking lot with yellow gates went up at the end of Beach Rd. on the Shipman property. They spent some money on the clearing, grading, gravel, large boulders and gates.
Anyone know why Shipman did this? There were folks parking on both sides of the end of Beach Rd. before because there were boulders at the end to block off vehicles. Those boulders are still there.
I just found it interesting that Shipman Ltd spent all this money creating a parking lot there and wondered if anyone knows the "back story" as to why they put in this parking lot.
Thanks for any info

P.S. the lot on makai side of Beach Rd that is not Shipman land still has the 4wd access, which is how the vehicles have been getting in for years, so the parking lot has no effect on this other entry.

While I was chairman of the HPP Neighborhood Watch, we had discussions with Shipman representatives regarding security issues on our mutual boundaries. The area at the end of beach road was a source of frustration and problems for both sides with wild parties, rubbish dumping, car break-ins, and even gunshots reported on a regular basis. Contrary to what some have claimed, the Shipmans have demonstrated themselves to be good neighbors. They do not contest the public's right to walk the trail to Haena, and have built the gates and what will be some parking space to formalize the trail access point. The Shipmans have the right to control access to their private property, and if this new construction helps them do that, then so be it. There is no intent to restrict foot traffic to the cove and beach. They are plagued by illegal activity on their property and have every right to try to eliminate it.
