Does anyone on this forum keep goats?
I'm looking to purchase a couple more does and a nigerian dwarf buck.
Also, I'd love to hear any advice on goat keeping here in Hawaii. I worry about worms and have had some issues with hoof rot.

I've worked at many farms that keep goats and hoof rot is definitely an issue on the rainy side. You'll need a covered area for them to freely move about. Also make sure you get more than one because goats are a very social animal they will be too lonely without companions, however I wouldn't recommend getting more than one male, they are very competitive! I think you could get antibiotics for the worms, are you comfortable using a syringe? You could administer yourself and save yourself a lot of time / money!

I've already got three, am looking to get a few more. I do have a covered area. I only have one male and I castrated him. I am more than comfortable giving injections. So far I've used only oral wormers on them....

We put hydrated lime at the entrance to the barn so they have to step all in it as they enter.

i use the wormer that is in pellet form and just mix in with some sweet cob once a month. the goats eat it right up no muss/fuss. one of my goats had a bad case of foot rot so i poured them a little sidewalk of cement from the gate to their goat house. makes it easier to me to carry their feed and they actually wipe their hooves on it and stay on the walkway in the rain. they are very smart, my boy is a nigerian but he is castrated also. lots of goats around some lady in glenwood has nigerians for sale guite often.

I have a young dwarf Nigerian buck that I need to find a good home for. He either wandered onto my farm or was dropped off there by persons unknown and has been hanging out with my ewes, who tolerate him. But he wants to mate with them and I don't want to lose a breeding season. He is a cutie. renesiracusa@hotmail.com.
