I've done it with android but not with apple, I'm sure apple has a google or skype app?

Mac here. I use Skype for a world wide weekly live TV/Radio/Podcast show.
and, just yacking with friends and family. Mac has it's own "Face Time" but Skype is better.

It's free between laptops and desktops using Skype. But not between smartphones

I found face time to be way easier than Skype... but more limited... both parties need I-phones or Ipads....

But it is so easy and we are addicted and talked/video'd with family members all over the country on Christmas Day. Got to see everyone in the kitchen cooking from NC to SD to So Cal!

We also used it Nov/Dec at HMC so my family could face time with Mom. Some of them couldnt come out so it was awesome. Funny to see a Ipad balanced on the little yellow tubs... we hadnt got the stand yet then.... The time my family got to spend with my mom on Face time was as the commercial says "priceless".

Another cross platform freebie is Tango. MIL doesn't have wifi, but Tango works acceptably on her iPhone w ATT.

I Skype with friends both here and on the mainland all the time using laptop from home and IPod Touch when I'm out and about. IPod Touch uses same OS as IPhone/IPad. Never any problems or any charges.
