HPP -BUS ROUTE BEGINS 4/1 with 3 routes!

Just got this note in an email:
"JUNE CONANT, our HPPOA President made an announcement at our Neighborhood Watch meeting on Saturday Jan. 5th.
The County is working with HPPOA to arrange for a 15 passenger type van to drive a not yet designated route though HPP. This is to help bring some bus service to our subdivision. The regular HPPOA monthly meeting is held on Wednesday, January 16th at 6:pm and June asked that if anyone has ideas or input for a schedule or route she would like to hear from you prior to the meeting. You can drop off ideas at the office or call her"

Not playing the troll, but genuinely curious: how does the liability issue play out for passengers of a County bus on a "private" road?

Bus company liability insurer - if if becomes an issue they will apply a surcharge or exclude the risk

Would be nice if the route touched all major arteries into the subdivision...Makuu, Paradise, Kaloli, and Shower and at some point go from top to bottom and then go directly into Hilo (non-stop). My personal suggested route would be down Makuu from Hwy 130 to the HPP Office...then across 16th to Paradise...Then down Paradise to Beach Road...Then across beach to Kaloli...then up Kaloli to 22nd...then over 22nd to Shower and then up Shower to Hwy 130. As far as frequency... I would start off with three times a day...8am, 12 pm, and 4pm..and see how it goes

That route leaves out everyone who lives below 16th on the maku'u side, we need a bus that gets people from the bottom of the subdivision up to the highway where they can catch the bus into Hilo.

Again/yet/still: maybe some development lower Puna would eliminate the need to "to go Hilo" for everything?

Yeah, I know.

Todays paper, HeleOn will be adding 2 stops in HPP on 3 of their weekday routes & one morning & afternoon on Saturday.
The stops will be at the Hui & the firestation, with park-n-ride at the hui.

This is a really good first step, the Hui is right at the end of my street! Now my dad can go into Hilo when he wants and we are working.

It's definitely a start. Now I will only have to walk 2 miles to the bus instead of 4
