I just received a Nixle alert that the highway is closed due to high surf. Is this unusual? [?]

Bayfront HWY does close due to high surf, maybe a handful or more times a year.... the REALLY big surf closures are something else, when those surf bank boulders along the highway are surf tossed boulders ON the highway, luckily THOSE high surf incidents are much less common... once every few years or so
We noticed that the surf & currents were squirrely today during our underwater CleanUp, and when the surf starts coming from the north, like today, that is when the bayfront can get slammed..

Nana - as Carey says, this is not unusual, especially at this time of year and through the winter. Although I can't see the surf from where I am I can hear it hitting the cliffs right now. It's quite impressive!

yup, I can hear it as well... Started Yesterday. Glad I don't have beach front home. I'd probably just worry more.

The waves are big and the surfers are out in force on the Bayfront today!
