Nothing "insane" about another State money grab -- and this one might turn out to be really expensive, as State has an Oahu-centric "big city" mentality which doesn't always translate to the rural reality.

Wow. They're saying, "We don't provide any infrastructure, but we're taxing you anyway."

“Under this proposed bill, operators of individual wastewater systems will also be required to pay fees necessary to help ensure pollution from their systems is reduced and properly managed,” Fuddy said.

Neil Abercrombie, AKA "Leadership You Can Trust" strikes again.
No wonder we don't see much of him here since 2010.
I just wish Neil and his buddy Barack had never been elected.
What a pair.
Also, Oahu strikes again.
Also, this is an attempt to confuse the interests of the ordinary residential property owners
with big developers and operators.
BTW, I have a State mandated septic system like many homeowners that I monitor.

this is more tax, more bureaucracy, more new government employees, more control, more democratic votes. We are sliding into a one-party environment and that is very dangerous![V]

the feds are leaning on the states re: clean water act

expect more of this - all part of the cycle

maybe a good idea would be to use the gasoline tax those without county roads over pay - most likely same folks that own cesspools in this county

does this mean the state will pay to clean kapoho - when the feds come calling?

I expect nothing less from Liberal Democrat nutjobs.
They will continue to erode our freedom to choose and penalize us
for choosing "incorrectly".

A la Pelosi, "We have to tax you first to find out what's wrong".

This is just the beginning and it's driven by the EPA.They are targeting anything that threatens the coral. In the case of cesspools it is excessive amounts of nitrogen.

If they test the water off of HPP and find high nitrogen levels they could require HPP to form a Sanitary Waste District and put in sewers.

If this were actually about "clean water", seems like the additional fees (penalties) should be levied against those who are actually polluting -- except DoH somehow doesn't have enough "funding" to figure out who those polluters are.

So yes, it does seem like a "money/power grab", especially as the new fees remain "unspecified", despite promises that these fees will be "reasonable". The money will be spent elsewhere, just like the "County road tax" (that doesn't fund your "private" road) and the Federal gas tax (that pays for "interstate" highways on Oahu).

The bigger irony is that these fees will only be levied against people who are known to have "individual wastewater systems" (total is 58989 per article), and I would bet there are two or three for every system in the "official" count.
