Kalakoa, they have been struggling with this ridiculous Quickbooks nonsense for years. It never seems to work right, and they have spent thousands of dollars (perhaps tens of thousands, haven't checked lately) trying to unsuccessfully fix it. I found the apparent feud between the manager and one of the board members revealing. It's pretty bad when you can't get along and and one party makes accusations in a publicly available format. I suppose that if the meeting minutes were actually accurate, we would already know that there's a problem there.

The minutes are often so edited that meetings i've gone to and the minutes of those meetings had nothing in common other than a list of names.
Some of the board members opinions are fairly radical one way or the other. There was one troll than could have been Leona Helmsley love child. so they don't want a permanent record

this may be the moment in history whereby a rethink of our office operation here in hpp comes under close scrunity...if we the residents push for a comparison of costs associated with (or should i say, entertain bids from management companys, to take over certain aspects of the record keeping/report generating arm of hppoa) a management company versus hppoa employees to carry out the duties of acct.payables/receivables, collection (for a percentage of the amt. collected) of any and all accts. in the rears, and filing/submittal of various federal and state tax forms, ect, ect., we could take a good look at exactly what we need in the way of office support. certainly would appear to free up the gen. mng for more time on management of our road /maintainence crew.
by the way, anyone know if the road crew employees account for their time by handing in individual daily logs of where, what and progress on/of assignments, time frames, pertinent to the upkeep of hpp roads/shoulders ect? we may not need more people, we may need better management of time...

People instantly go after the employees and that's wrong.
There is 12 Million wasted in interest on the bond. It's not the guy running the weedwacker fault, the board is in charge and culpable for every penny

has nothing to do with "going after employees"...has to do with this is a "business" not a "charity"..."accountability all round" is the mantra, not finger pointing and blame...

About the "feud". I really don't know any of them that well, but I can guarantee that what the GM said about the mailboxes/CPU is right on. I saw all the correspondence and was even involved in sending a few back to the USPS myself, it is exactly as was described. An extortion attempt to get HPPOA to be responsible for all the CBU's in HPP which right now is the responsibility (by their own rules) of USPS. The only way that can be changed is with either all of the owners agreeing, or the board agreeing and they were trying to force the board without any input from the owners as they know the answer would have been hell no. It took using their own POM (Post Office Manual) and their rules to stop them. At least with this I can fully say the GM and the Board acted in the best interest of the owners.
I do agree with an HOA of this size, we probably should be managed by a company with professionals not paid/unpaid volunteers, as long as the owners retain the final say.

If you talk to people who've lived in HPP for a long time, many refer to the time in receivership as the "golden age" of management. A judge hired and supervised a team that apparently ran things rather well. Self government, such as it is in HPP's case, is sometimes overrated.

Yup. Always blames the staff...
For once management at the Board level needs to take some responsibility.
