I have been having a lot of breathing episodes for the last few days.

In spite of the fact that it is coming from a volcano nearby,some people will claim it comes from the geothermal plant.

and yes, thank god for our usual tradewinds ... for how close we are to the sources, vog is still uncommon for most of Puna... we lucky

Driving into Hilo this morning you could see how thick the VOG is, i couldn't even see the break wall from the bay front where I park every day. Normally I can see it clearly. The wind has been blowing North on and off for the last week or so and we haven't been having normal trade wind activity when it hasn't been blowing North, instead it has been virtually windless. Several of the models for global climate change predict reduced trade winds for the tropics, I sure hope those models are wrong.

I was surprised that my son said they still had PE and you can visibly see the haze just hanging in the air today in Hilo.

Yeah I was thinking about this today myself when I was in Hilo looking at the vog thick in the air. But not only that... But just think if we had Kona winds for a good 2-3 months out of year. That would destroy the lush green look of puna. It would also destroy the atmosphere of one just coming here and building a 10K gallon catchment tank and never have to worry about water. Heck, What if it started happening twice a year or even GASP 3-4 X a year no rain ... Ouch!

I think a lot of people would be fed up quickly when tanks ran dry twice or more a year for months at a time. Global Warming could spell an end to the rainwater lifestyle. Yes, some people will adapt to sponge bathing but I suspect the majority on catchment would be selling out moving away. While I too hope they are wrong ... My faith lies with science. Sadly it's only a matter of time. But it will be interesting to watch it all unfold.

My take things are going to get rather interesting in the next 5-10 years. Funny thing is they never predicted that the polar ice sheets would melt as fast as they are. Also, with China coming up so fast and surpassing USA emissions. Let's just say we aren't slowing down are hunger any time soon. Will be interesting to see how high the temps get this summer and above all how it might affect us all on this little rock out in the middle of nowhere.

Ironically a lot of people tried to run away from climate change and pollution by coming here probably to be even more affected. Climate Change has no borders we are all connected. What we do even here has an affect on the entire system.
