peculiar question
#1
Aloha everyone. As if it wasn't bad enough that we got ripped off earlier this month, I discovered someone has hacked into my mifi connection and has been downloading/streamng video all night and sometimes all day for almost an entire billing cycle.

Has anyone else ever had this happen? Has anyone had any success in getting the bill reduced?

This is extra weird because to simply "use" the mi-fi they would have to hunker down in the forest in the rain at those odd hours, somewhere close to the house. What could be going on?

One time I was using my wife's cell mifi signal as I surfed the internet. Then she drove away (taking her phone) to go run some errands. I kept surfing the internet as she left. Surprisingly, the internet signal got better (and my web pages loaded quicker) when she got about 100 feet away. The internet lasted for me for another 50 feet or so. Mind you the "rated" distance on the phone for mifi was 30 feet. The reality is that one doesn't know the true range of radio transmission until they have been tested. But more importantly, how did they get your network password? OR... did they mess up the billing and somebody else's usage is being charged to your account?

I am going with a billing error as the other alternatives are way too weird.

Your mifi device "should" have a "whitelist MAC" function. This is the only way to be sure, because both WEP and WPA can be cracked.
