plumber costs
#1
My mother had a plumber look at her water heater, the element was faulty, so he exchanged it at home depot and reinstalled it.
Does $700 dollars seem a little steep to anyone else?

Uh yea. My entire water heater cost less than a third of that. And it heats on demand!

Way out of line. Most especially if your mother is elderly you should report this to the contractor's board and maybe the D.A. Sounds like it may be elder abuse.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Seems that most of the cost was labor. He charged for the time it took to drain the tank, drive it into town, wait for the replacement, and drive back out. Wish I wasnt still on the mainland. I could have done most of it myself. Well, live and learn. Steep learning curve here. He did do a good job. So at least my momma can have a good bath. Thanks for the replies.

Sounds high to me. I bought a new hot water heater from Home Depot earlier this year, and replaced ours (which had sprung a bad leak). I did the work and running around to two different stores myself, Cost us under $300 for the new heater, and my time. And, believe, me, I am no plumber. I hate working on plumbimg problems.
