Well, there is an orange sign heading into Hilo before Shower that says it has begun. There was some surveying going on a few weeks ago and they had the counter cables in various places. Looks like some interesting months (years?) ahead.

Last time they widened the shoulders on Hwy 130 it took 2 years.
Assume the best and ask questions.

LONGER COMMUTE TIMES! MORE ACCIDENTS! FOR YEARS!
Sorry about the all caps but I am dreading the construction process and have no faith in the DOT to design or build this well.

The last time they widened it there was far less traffic than now. This is forecast to be a 10 year project.

Nan Inc. is the contractor on the Highway 130 shoulder lane conversion project. They have a good track record getting projects completed on time. The Ane Keohokalole Highway project in Kona was one of Nan's project, along with the construction of the new National Guard Armory at Hilo Airport.

I'm having a hard time finding anything on those sites whalesong posted that aren't two years out of date. Is there anything more recent?

Tom, sadly this is the only updated information I could find. Here's a site that you and everyone else can use to get current updates, when they are posted.
