Civil Defense Tests Siren Warning System Today
#1
Happy New Year! FYI:

Civil Defense will begin its first siren test of the year at around 11:45 a.m. today.

Hawaii State Civil Defense will conduct its first outdoor siren warning system test of the year Thursday across the state.

The siren test -- which occurs monthly in conjunction with the Emergency Alert System's live audio broadcast test -- sounds a steady tone normally used to alert the public of any emergencies such as natural hazards. The EAS could be used for terrorist incidents or acts of war.

The siren signals are scheduled to start blasting at approximately 11:45 a.m. and will sound for about a minute. When it goes off in your area, Civil Defense advises tuning in to local radio or TV stations for emergency information.

If you don't hear them or feel there are problems, call Civil Defense at #935-0031.
