FYI:

A 30-year woman (picture at link) has been arrested in connection with last weekend’s drug-related explosion in Hawaiian Paradise Park that sent a man to the hospital.

Police said Savannah Maloof lives at the home on 17th Avenue, but was not at home when the explosion occurred.

Maloof was arrested Monday on suspicion of first-degree promotion of marijuana, second-degree promotion of marijuana, first-degree promotion of a harmful drug, promotion of a detrimental drug and four counts of drug paraphernalia.

She was being held in the Hilo cellblock without charges pending further investigation.

The butane process of concentrating marijuana resins results in bubbles of the explosive gas which must be evaporated away.

Police investigating the explosion Saturday night confiscated 102 marijuana plants being grown indoors, more than an ounce of butane honey oil — a concentrated form of marijuana, and components in the manufacture of butane honey oil.

The 30-year-old male resident of the home is being treated at an Oahu hospital for severe burns.

He has not been named.

Update: It has since been reported the man has died.

time to legalize !

if this harmless plant wasn't demonized this terrible accident would never have occurred...

If cannabis was legal it wouldn't be necessary for ninnies to use such unclean and dangerous methods to extract the THC from the cannabis plant.

on a semi-related note, we could use some better education - there are purer and safer methods to refine products chemically and if we could strengthen the S.T.E.M. in our curriculum's starting from an early age then maybe these ninnies wouldn't have been needlessly putting themselves at risk using an antiquated and toxic method to refine their 'product' and would be able to comprehend the danger they were putting themselves in and have chosen a safer means of extraction.

@rainyjim

Good point. We saw the same thing during prohibition with the moonshine stills blowing up - and if they managed not to blow up the still, the drinkers went blind!

Actually they are!

Sometimes very very funny!

Not anywhere near that of a violent foul drunk however.

But that's legal to do!

Ken, Go figure, huh?

rainyjim, another thought provoking post. Although, some will continue to be reckless no matter the laws in place. Very sad for the families and friends. JMO.

Happy New Year all!

This is very sad, very disturbing. I did not realize how dangerous some of these labs or indoor ops could be?. Maybe Helco and H.P.D didn't either?. This is tragic and our hearts and prayers go out to the friends and families involved. Puna and community may need to look at one of our lowest priorities again and make some safer changes, So this highly popular way of making hash does not Kill anymore?. Why cant people just buy a small amount down at Roger Cristie's or through the pain management club?. People aren't forced into doing this are they?. Puna.

This is true Bananahead bubble hash is made from crushed ice. The Drugs inc show done here on the big isle showed a great recipe, for if it don't bubble its not worth the trouble. This honey oil though is around, And seems to be the stronger choice of meds now. All this in doors though because there is millions spent every year chasing paranoid people in-doors to grow and Process. Must not take to much electricity to grow a 100 plants, or maybe its gas for the generator. Maybe the technology is not up to par here and it can not be detected in homes like on the mainland?. Anyway my neighbor across the street can barely walk or drive, He has a medical card and cant find his meds regularly or safely. I wonder how sick or older folks are getting their hash or herb?. You think they have to approach these new doctors on our streets?. Or try and make it themselves?.
