Every Wednesday night at Uncle Roberts there's an fantastic display of music and food where visitors and locals share Aloha together.
"
With vendors offering locally grown produce, baked goods, hand made jewelry, freshly cooked food, and live music, it feels more like a festival than a market." *Denise Laitinen- Ke'Ola Magazine
Come early and/or carpool as there's always a large crowd.

I wonder if his "4 acre compound" qualifies as a "cult on the lava flow"?
Interesting article thanks for sharing.

yes and the parking sucks. Used to be free then 1.00...then 2.00 and now 2.00 to park along the road. No thanks.

Hmm, how do they get away charging 2 bucks to park on a public road? What if you don't pay? do they tow a car on a public road? I wonder how that works? Or do they just mess with your car?
Last time I was there I parked at the stop sign ... Was kinda a long hike but I didn't want to deal with the traffic... But I got an island car, so I don't think anyone was gonna mess with it, but I felt a little awkward leaving my car out in the middle of no where at night. The risks we take to try to get away from congestion.

They bulldozed a parking area on the new lava flow after getting control of the area from DLNR. The parking fee is an experiment to encourage car-pooling as a way of reducing congestion. The fee includes security services.
The overwhelming success of the Wednesday night gathering has forced the organizers to try different strategys to manage the event, and it's the da kine happening in East Hawaii.
Sounds like a lot of fun, is there family entertainment(looking for wagon rides or waterslides for the Kieki)?. Do they offer any type of Kamaiana discounts, or just the welfare one E.b.t?. Just wondering if Locals have to pay full price for parking, entertainment, food, ect, or just tourist do. Also thought since E.b.t is helping many, maybe some places can help us Local folks not using E.B.T.

If you don't like it or the idea of it, DON'T GO. Looking for discounts, complaining about parking charge, no EBT. Who the hell are you people?
Just some local folks who would like to bring the Kieki rather than find one baby sitter. Never been yet so SORRY for da questions?. Had some friends from Seaview though who said they had good time, but they walked and brought their own goods so I did not know about kid fun.

Sorry if I misunderstood. Uncle Robert tries to keep it family friendly and I do see kids there having a good time but there is nothing specifically for kids and it is crowded. Many lifestyles are represented. And there is a bar with alcohol.
But it is a great time with great music and vibes. Good food and fun. Don't complain about parking fees, they are providing security of sorts. Also good to support this totally organic effort to bring back Kalapana.

local people who object to feeling extorted to attend a farmer's market. Maku'u Farmers Market#65279; is way better with plenty of parking and more grinds.
