Bob Dylan coming to Hawaii
#1
Tickets just went on sale this morning for Bob Dylan to do a concert at Blaisdell Arena on April 29 and tickets will go on sale later for Maui at the MACC on April 26th.

Dylan hasn't done any concerts in Hawaii for 16 years.

You'd have to be a real dylan fan to buy 100 dollar ticket and another 200 bucks to get there and back not to mention food, taxi/car rental and maybe a hotel for the night.

I saw his last show on Maui 16 years ago. The night sky above the MACC lawn was filled with stars, and Dylan played everything you'd want to hear and more. He put on an incredible show.

I'm a real fan, but will have to wait till he comes to the Palace and plays for $10.00

LOL! I saw him with the Band in the 70's and it remains one of the highlights of my music experience.

“Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.”

I'm a real Dylan fan, but yes it would cost $500 I bet. Maybe combined with other stuff on Oahu. Had I known the tickets were going on sale I would have been tempted.

I have been to some great Dylan concerts.
Dylan and the Band in 1966 was the first.
Dylan and Tom Petty at the Greek in Berkekey, 1886
Dylan and Neil Young at the Greek a few years later.
Dylan and Van Morrisson at Shoreline Ampitheatre, early 90's.
Dylan and band at the Berkekey Community Theater.
The last time I saw him was at the Warfield Theater in SF in the 90's during his Endless Tour. I was right in front of the stage and he did amazing versions of his classic songs, especially Tambourine Man.

I will always have those great times, but I would not mind one more!

Back in 1965, I joined the Columbia Record Club with one of those deals where you get 6 albums for the price of one and then buy another few in the next six months, and that is how I got my Dylan album collection in one fell swoop with my little teenager allowance.

I listened line by line and manually typed out the lyrics for each song on each album, back when you couldn't get a written version of lyrics some easy way.

Dylan singing Desolation Row on stage with the Band in 1966, I can still remember that feeling that I had gone to heaven.

How big a venue is MACC? That sounds ideal. I am kind if over the Big Arena experience.

I wish I had seen Dylan in the 70's snorkle. I would gladly have driven the 3-4 hours to go see The Last Waltz concert, but I was broke and living way up in the redwoods with small kids. Plus I was so out of touch with such things as city events back then, that I only heard about it the day before.

I am a real big Dylan fan. I've been blessed to see him 11 times.
I am also not financially able to travel to O'ahu.
I'd LOVE for him to come to the palace!
My first Dylan show (I was born in the late 70's so could did not see him till the 90's) was Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and Dylan.
I was sure hoping he would play 'tangled up in blue' and the friends i went with said, "no way, he hasn't played that for ages' and lo and behold (by the way a very fun Dylan and the Band song) he played it.
And once I saw him on a Paul Simon and Dylan tour, and they played the Boxer together.

If it's outside, this should give you an idea of the type of seating they use. We sat on folding chairs 16 years ago:

Dylan can no longer sing but he is a legend and a great poet with a place on my iPod. I have been listening to two of his songs in rotation. Tangled up in Blue is one of my all time favorites:

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello" she said
"You look like the silent type"
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burning coal
Pouring off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you
Tangled up in blue....
So now I'm going back again
I got to get her somehow
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives
Don't know how it all got started
I don't what they're doing with their lives
But me I'm still on the road
Heading for another joint
We always did feel the same
We just saw it from a different point of view
Tangled up in Blue.

AND then the other one I am trying to stop listening to on Highway 130:

They tell me to be discreet for all intended purposes
They tell me revenge is sweet and from where they stand, I'm sure it is
But I feel nothing for their game, where beauty goes unrecognized
All I feel is heat and flame, and all I see are dark eyes.

Oh, the French girl, she's in paradise and a drunken man is at the wheel
Hunger pays a heavy prize to the falling gods of speed and steel
Oh, time is short and the days are sweet and passion rules the arrow that flies
A million faces at my feet but all I see are dark eyes.

[end Dylan]

Yep. A million faces at my feet and the only thing I can see are dark eyes. That'll totally throw you off!

I wish he would play over at the Waikoloa Bowl. That is such a wonderful venue for an outdoor concert and it is hardly ever used. Such a shame.
