Closing on House
#1
Well Folks,

Looks like we are going to be closing in the next couple of days on our Hawaiian house. After nearly 3 years of searching and 2 years living on island from Wood Valley to Hawi, from Pahoa to Honokaa to Kealakekua....we will hopefully be closing on a place in Paauilo. I know it isn't Puna, but we just fell in love with Hamakua. I am sure nights at Uncle Roberts, romps around the Waa Waa coast and mermaid ponds and naked swims and drum circles at Kehena are still in my future. If anyone knows any good contractors in the area (plumbers and electricians too) that you could pass my way I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks for all of your help; I will be sure to keep in touch!

Congrats on your new house, & as you know, there are others on the forum that are not in Puna here on Punaweb...in fact, we are just on the border, but not within a Puna county council boundaries...so...

Gotta agree that we fell in love with your neck of the woods, but did decide on something a little closer to Hilo...

Add: wish I knew of good contractors that I would recommend... we have found that being handy is almost a must here to correct things..

Congrats AK! Was it the one facing the park just off the hi way? If so, good pick. Other one down the street was pretty nice also.

Hey!

Neither, it is a place Mauka of the Highway. It was never really on the market.

Probably the best overall place on the island. Not too much vog, no forest fire nearby, albizia, coqui, and fire ants haven't been able to traverse the fast streams between Puna/Hilo to get up that way - yet. There are a lot of reasons the median price in Puna is so low. And then, the commute is where a lot of the property price discount comes from. On an island with almost all the climate zones and geography from molten lava to deserts to jungle, the choice of place is completely up to the individual. Even settling on a place, there is the attraction of extended time in another section of the island. Having a place on the east and west side would be the bomb.

Welcome AK! Another advantage of Pauuilo is Hapuna and other great beaches are less than an hour away. Enjoy!
