My little sister once ate a whole bag of cherries when she was little and vomited on my moms new carpets. She wasn't happy cleaning up all that red.

'Surinam Cherries' are night and day from cherries... they are more related to Guava/Ohia/MtApple/Eucalyptus than Cherries (plums/roses/raspberries/strawberries/almonds)....

never heard of anyone getting sick from them though, maybe it was something on the outside ???
did you wash them 1st???

If you eat too much of just about any sweet fruit the result could be vomiting and\or diarrhea. I've experienced this with overzealous apple picking and eating in a Vermont orchard and also as kid with watermelon.

Rainyjim. I have not heard of either problem from eating them. They taste like they could be high in tannins, which some are sensitive to, I'd have to look. Regardless it could be coincidence if an illness followed the eating of the surinam cherries.

If you got sick from fruit, I would think it is because it was contaminated with something. I ate a star apple one time. I had food poisoning for 3 days. It was awful. It was the first and last time I will eat a star apple because of that experience. It was picked from someone's orchard in HPP, so it must of had something on it and then it wasn't washed properly.

If people use manure as fert, I would be EXTRA careful to wash wash wash. I use rabbit and goat poop and I usually use soap and water, not only for the poop but rat lung worm.
