I think it's shocking that people try to backfeed their generator power into their home's electrical system by hooking their generator up to the dryer plug. This is very dangerous, and I won't do it.
What I would like to do is have an electrician install whatever is necessary to hook a generator up safely. Does anybody have a guy or gal they can recommend?
Probably should have thought about this when it wasn't hurricane season, but... whatever. I can run cords all over the house until it gets done.

Not that hard to hook up a transfer switch. Otherwise the backfeed is OK if you're conscientious about disconnecting the main before doing so. A good idea to kill the main before hooking up the transfer switch too. I doubt you could order one and get it there in time for this storm. I'm not an electrician but I did stay at a Holiday Inn.

Been done many times, however it is one of those things where you are potentially exposing someone to death so you better be absolutely certain you are doing it right. Most authorities say just don't do it and I can see why.

Not that hard to make a cord up. Home Depot would have everything you need.

yeah even with lockout tagout ...even experienced people get killed... I wouldn't recommend this advice to the average home owner. Possibly killing someone working on the lines is well... they already are put in great danger... last thing they need is someone feeding the mains.
Get it done properly by an experienced electrician.

What you need is an electrician to install a "dryer plug" outside of your house and instruct you how to turn off your main breaker from the grid when your running the generator. Thats the least expensive route.
