Aloha all, as I was driving out of Nanawale Community Center about 6pm today, 2 firetrucks, a humvee and an ambulance went racing by. Any idea What was going on? Then a friend said there was a road block where police were searching cars in Pahoa around 7.

PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A fire has gutted a home in Nanawale Estates in the storm ravaged area of Puna on the Big Island.

Fire officials say they received a call around 6 p.m., at the intersection of Flower and Forest street.

Witnesses say crews had to cut down trees in order to get to the burning home, but it eventually burned to the ground.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and it is unknown if there were any injuries.

The Red Cross is currently assisting the people who lived there.
