Three small earthquakes were big enough to be felt on the Big Island Friday morning.

At 7:51 a.m., an earthquake estimated at magnitude 2.8 struck. The epicenter was located at a depth of 5.1 miles about 1.6 miles north of Honaunau and 3.3 miles south of Captain Cook.

At about the same time, an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 2.7 struck offshore of the east side of the island about 11.1 miles north of the Lo'ihi Seamount and 15 miles south of Pahala at a depth of 10.1 miles.

A third magnitude 2.2 earthquake struck at about 8:54 a.m. about 1.8 miles north-northeast of Honaunau and 3.3 miles south of Captain Cook at a depth of 5.5 miles.

The U.S. Geological Survey's "Did you feel it" website recorded about a dozen responses from Captain Cook and Honaunau of people who said they felt the earthquakes.

Careful what you ask for, it might have unintended consequences.

The red dot shows ones that have happened in the last two hours. I had just clicked on the "seismic" link at HVO website, and there was a red dot showing.
