*Waves Hello*
#1
Been reading here for a couple of weeks now, just registered. Have been posting on another BI-centric forum for about a week (where I learned of this one), under a different username.
Coming to BI around the first of the year.
Will probably pick a few brains here and comment occasionally.... but I think I will continue to lay back for now until the current .....uuuummmm.... hot topic is well and truly done. I have no side in this nor knowledge, and don't really want either. I will say that I nearly chose to put PW aside for the long haul due to negativity I witnessed here.
Hope to spend many fun and elucidative hours here in the future.

*Topic is an self-introduction. Saying 'Hi'. No other agenda.*

I feel a lot more like I do now, than I did a while ago...

Welcome to Punaweb.

Punaweb has seen it's peaks and valleys over the last ten years. It comes and goes. I hope you are able to get the info you need with minimal stress. Puna is under a lot of stress these days.... not surprising that it shows.

Assume the best and ask questions.

PS - I have removed some posts that were off topic.

As a veteran system admin and forum moderator myself, I know first hand exactly how difficult Rob's job is. A moderator wants to do their part to uphold the first amendment (even though there is absolutely no requirement to do so), but at the same time keep things on topic and in line with the forum's community standards and terms of use. Good users come and go. Bad users come and go. Sometimes the most offending users also contribute some of the best knowledge. Everything is a gray area and nothing is black and white. My advice is to remember that on an online forum, nobody has the "right" to free speech but everybody has the option (obligation?) to stop reading posts that drag them down. I like Rob's moderation because he lets people vent the same way people vent in Puna, but at the same time doesn't let things devolve like its Lord of the Flies.

for the record, the only thing i posted which was deleted by Rob was thanking him for terminating the other thread. (...in a single 10 word sentence).

That's where the web part of Punaweb comes into play.
It catches the flies before they get completely out of control.

Lots of good information to be found here. Search on just about any topic and you'll find all kinds of tidbits. Also some people who seem to need more drama in their lives and consequently do a lot of bickering. At least if they are squabbling here they are occupied in a realm where the damage they cause is minimal. And it can be kind of amusing, in a jaded way, to watch molehills get transformed into mountains. For what it is worth, the vast majority of people in Puna are friendly, tolerant and relaxed, unlike those who feel the need to prove something on Punaweb.
