In my opinion? Being ignored. (Feel free to disagree.)

An experiment: pretend I'm a troll and that I just started a thread that offended you with an outrageous, vitriolic, snarky message. For example, "Curse all you dirty rats on punaweb!"

Now pretend you're really shocked, offended and ticked off at me for saying such a preposterous thing. Wanna torture me? Say nothing. Starve me. Either my post will scroll off the page, or the troll will just keep responding to himself/herself, and that in itself could be entertaining (assuming no one responds).

Hopefully no one responds to this message so we can see how quickly it scrolls off the first page of punaweb. (But if you MUST say something, please make it rhyme.)
