I was reading the Sunday paper this morning and came across this article in the travel section about the east side of the Big Island. There is mention of Puna, a few of the restaurants, sites to see and some mention of the lava.
I thought it might be of interest to you local folks to read a positive article about your home (except the author wasn't enamored with the fish jerky in Pahoa)!

Wow, I wonder if the Associated Press would be willing to pick up the article?

I think they did. This article was in the Sacramento paper but the byline is from a Texas newspaper/writer.

Nice piece, except they never did figure out how to pronounce "poke."

How is it pronounced? Is it like Gumby & Poke, or like In bed this morning my girlfriend told me "Don't poke me in the back with that thing, I'm not in the mood"?

I would venture a guess as to how I say it as po-keh, as the vowel pronunciation is ah, eh, ee, o, ooh. ( a, e, I, o, u). I'm not always correct , tho.
P.S. Where you live that you get the "Bee"? I remember reading that paper as a child living in Sutter, Ca. ( near bananaheads referenced Yuba City!)

I'm getting the Sacramento Bee here in Sacramento! Been to Yuba City many times, never to Sutter. Wanted to go check it out and find a hiking trail up the Sutter Buttes but I know it's private property and am not going to risk it.
