After Dark in the Park lecture series this month
#1
Anyone interested in a more detailed explanation of what's going on with Kilauea's eruptions, both at Halemaumau and Puu Oo, might want to go to the four After Dark in the Park presentations at the Kilauea Visitor Center planned for this month. Starting this evening.

After Dark in the Park is a once a week, on Tuesday evenings at 7pm, lecture series that presents all sorts of stuff over the years. This month there is planned a series of talks about our local volcanoes by varying staff from HVO and UH Hilo. Including:

Tuesday, January 6, 2015 - Updates on Kilauea Volcano's Two Eruptions: Puu Oo and Halemaumau by Matt Patrick, a geologist with the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Tuesday, January 13, 2015 - Kilauea Volcano's Dual personality: A Historical Perspective by USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geologist and former Scientist in Charge Don Swanson

Tuesday, January 20, 2015 - Watching Mauna Loa Shake by U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist Paul Okubo

Tuesday, January 27, 2015 - Pahoehoe Lava: The Ebb and Flow of Molden Rock by University of Hawaii at Hilo geologists Ken Hon and Cheryl Gansecki

One really could not ask for a better opportunity to listen to, and ask questions of, some of the best in the field. This really is a great opportunity for everyone that is interested in knowing what is going on with our volcanoes, and promises to be far more than the informational meetings in Pahoa.

More information is available here:

If you really are interested I suggest getting there early, these talks are very popular and end up with standing room only and then some.
