#1
Anybody have any experience / advice hunting these invasive critters? Good spots to check out, and other suggestions greatly appreciated.

Sorry Cheesehead, nothing springs to mind. I hope you find some because shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. They get shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. Best of luck with all of that shrimpin'

Sure Cheesehead - let me share my favorite spot with you and the rest of the world. Ha! Sorry man, they call it the big island but it's really an overcrowded small town.

Edited for politeness.

Tahitian shrimp are an invasive species introduced in 1956 that's out-competing the native shrimp that've been here for eons. The fewer of these around the better for the native habitat. If someone knows a spot that's overrun I'd think that they'd want to share the information rather than encourage the destruction of more Hawaiian endemic species.

feralwisconee, Welcome to Punaweb. I apologize for lavalava's rudeness... if it happens again lavalava will take an unscheduled vacation.

I have a wonderful visual of a tiny Menehune armed with a long-tined cocktail fork setting out to capture the wily Tahitian Shrimp...

Sorry I can't be actually helpful on this.

Mea culpa, mea culpa. No offense Packer fan, I'm just not a fan of sharing - next thing you know the old fishing hole is overrun with everybody and their second cousins!

If you don't want to share the good info what inspires you to share your rudeness?

Try going out to waipio valley, the beauty and beach is worth it even if you strike out on the prawns. Bring a couple hand nets and your slippers, with a little luck you can score plenty for family grinds. Good luck, please throw a few of the smaller ones back.

Waipio valley was originally at the top of my list, though being an outsider, I was concerned about intruding upon sacred ground.

I wouldn't worry about intruding on sacred ground! Private property, however, could get you in trouble!
