HPP General Membership Snafu?
#1
It was discussed in the HPP Board meeting that HPP office staff, Morgan Sky, had booked the hui for a private party during the same time that the HPP general membership meeting is scheduled.
Morgan has been a paid staff at HPP for over 18 years. It is hard to imagine that when booking a private event for a Sunday in June that Morgan wouldn't check to see if the regularly scheduled general membership meeting was on that Sunday.

The private party that booked the event is NOT a HPP member nor a HPP associate member.
Why would this party get the hui when it is scheduled for the HPP General membership meeting? The private party has more than enough time to move the event one day before or one day after. Instead it seems the HPP general membership meeting will be moved. How is this ok? Bylaws state the meeting time and date.
Also, if we have to meet somewhere else, who pays for it? This was Morgan's mistake. She needs to be held responsible to fix it.

This post is a great example of Hawaii's fundamental struggle.

Haole == Truth! Truth! Speak up! It's in the bylaws! Someone needs to be held accountable!

Local/Asian == Zen. Everybody get along. No worries! Can always change a location of our meeting to better accommodate your family's baby party. No worries. Zen, everybody get along.

Each comes with their own plus and minuses. Their own good and bad. But this is our struggle. And the struggle is real.

Sorry OLG, 'neva mean to hijack your thread. But you should lighten up a bit. If can. If no can, lawsuit! [Big Grin]

Mainland Transplant - used to protocol, rules, regulations, organization, expectation of stability.

Local - used to whateva, go with the flow, no big deal, no worries, if can can if no can then no can.

One is not inherently better than the other, but nevertheless we have a culture clash.

It does sound odd though that non-HPP people could even be eligible to rent the HPP Hui...

HPP should be a reality show. If the ratings were good, there would be money for roads.

It's not a reality show? I was really impressed with the many twists and turns and how the plot thickens!

It is my understanding that the date of the General Membership meeting has been changed and there will be banners oat the entrances to HPP to announce this. It will still be held in the Activity Center.

Although the date is specified in the Bylaws, even I, with my inclination to apply all rules strictly, think that this is one occasion where some leniency can be allowed. The conflicting occasion is a wedding and the invitations had already been sent out before the mistake was caught.

Morgan is the accounts receivable clerk. Until recently, it was not her responsibility to make the bookings for the Activity Center. That was the responsibility of the Administrative Assistant. But the current occupant of that post either felt she was incapable of doing that job or did not wish to do so and passed it to Morgan.

However, even if it had always been Morgan's responsibility, as a human being, there should be allowance for her to make a mistake. The current Board has willfully broken dozens of Bylaws without receiving a backlash such as in the original post.

The anger and abuse in the OP, directed at a long-term excellent employee of the Association, is unwarranted and, actually, disgusting.

Janet the hypocrite.
One mistake by a volunteer board member and Janet is on a diatribe quoting bylaws and unforgiving of mistakes.

Yet, a paid full time employee who has been at the job for 18 years is ok to make a mistake that is against the bylaws? A mistake that not only moves the general membership meeting, but another mistake: renting our hui to a party that is not a member or lot owner of HPP?

Bylaws only matter if they are broken by volunteer board members who have been on the board for months, not years?

And to say that the original post was anger and abuse? WOW! Maybe you need to stroll through the viscious lies and name calling of this current board of directors on the other HPP old threads.

The bylaws state that the General Membership Meeting is to be held the last Sundy in June at 3:00 pm.

Janet gave incorrect information:
this event that is taking priority over the general membership meeting is not a wedding.
The event is a first birthday party.

What would be wrong with renting to non-members of HPP? Don't you people need all the extra revenue you can get?
