self-propelled power strimmer
#1
All,

Not sure what to call what I'm looking for, so apologies for that. I have a powerful Shindaiwa weed whacker that I've used for years to clear the jungle but a progressing back problem means it's getting harder to use. What I'd really like is a powerful weed whacker but on wheels.

I've seen some models online that might do the job but are all on the mainland and would require delivery and buying sight unseen.

If anyone knows what I'm on about, do you know of any places here that sells equipment like this? I love my Shindaiwa but they don't seem to make what I'm after.

Thanks

It looks like they have them online at Walmart with free in store pickup. Might not be the brand you want though. Search wheeled string trimmer. Happy mowing!

I'm not sure you can return goods purchased online for store pickup at Walmart. I think they consider that a 'special order', unless they carry that item in-store. Home Depot may be the same. I could be wrong, but it's worth asking someone, or reading about it on their website. Amazon will take a return, but make sure the item you buy is 'shipped by and sold by' Amazon. Full disclosure, I do not work for Amazon.

You can return both Walmart and Home Depot items ordered online. I have done it before.

When you order online:

Walmart has a HI surcharge on any item you order online even if it is something they carry in stock(which seems a bit steep and does not make sense on items they carry in the store already). They did not have this charge a few years ago so its a recent change the pick up in store or ship to store surcharge.

Home Depot does not have a shipping or a surcharge unless it is a large oversized heavy item that they do not keep in stock then sometimes you have to pay a shipping surcharge when shipped to store.

Amazon
if you return an item you will have to pay return shipping even Prime accounts if your return is due to any other reason beside the item not working correctly or it being damaged.

I'm an online "shopaholic" ....I'm on the wagon now...

Tom, we had the Sears High Wheel brush trimmer for a couple of years (bought on a really good sidewalk sale at the Hilo Sears store), it really did cut back the overgrowth in our yard. We gave it away a few years ago, as our yard is more under control, we don't have a ton of storage space, plus I have planted way too many trees & we accidentally girdled a couple trees with it...

It now lives on a large farm just north of Hilo, where it is still trimming back cane grass, strawberry guava starts & such, still working away quite nicely (something I wasn't sure of with a Craftsman gas-power tool...)

They have one on sale now at Del's in Hilo. Look at ad, page two: http://www.delsfarmsupply.com/current_ad...504_HI.pdf

I found that they are typically hard to use in rocky areas so I sold mine.

Sears also carries them, at least their Craftsman brand, but generally at a high retail price.
If you can wait and watch for the sales, they'll have them for $100-$150 off.
I bought a Craftsmen model, it worked well for many years, even cut through the small stems of young bushes.

Need to add, the one on sale at Del's is $110 off normal price (substantial) and the sale ends TOMORROW (Sunday). In my experience if they are out of stock on sale items they DO issue and honor rain checks.
