I'm curious as to the news that former Hawaii County Councilman Pete Hoffmann is looking into running for mayor in 2016. I'm very happy to hear of his candidacy...is anyone else?
Would U support Pete Hoffmann for mayor?

A little bit about Pete:
Hoffman, who is from Waikoloa, was nominated for this award by the Waikoloa Senior Center. He organized the local senior center and was the founding and continuing president through mid-2006. He presided over the monthly meetings, drove the van on monthly outings, arranged for speakers, and took charge of most of the activities. He was the sweat equity of the senior center. At the youthful age of 72, Hoffman has committed his time and energy to numerous other community programs including the School Supply Drive, the Waikoloa Village Association, the Waikoloa Community Development Corporation, and the 21st Century Learning Center out of the Waikoloa Elementary School. Additionally, he serves as cantor at the Puako Ascension Catholic Church where he was named Island Treasure by the Diocese two years ago. from: http://health.hawaii.gov/news/files/2013/05/13-029.pdf

Yeah. Me. I think very highly of Pete. I don't agree with him 100% of the time but I trust him. He is experienced. He is honest and he is smart. My only general criticism is naiveté. He trusts lawyers a little more than is healthy.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Geez, another senior citizen looking to resurrect their political career !
Pete took a wrong turn at some point in his tenure, veering strangely into the dead end known as "concurrency". While extremely attractive on a superficial basis it is deeply flawed for a low population, large land area municipality such as Hawaii Island. Dependent almost solely on RPT to fund our government and it's services we are in a precarious position between community needs and the capacity to fund them. Make your choice, live with it. Pete seems to have come from the California conceit that you can shut down growth in government by shutting down revenues, and the best way to do that is through onerous conditions attached to developments alongside a freeze on RPT. Unfortunately we have a lot of pent up demand for goods and services from government and no other way to fund them but through a growth in RPT. Chickens and eggs....and concurrency kills the chicken.

It'd be nice to hire someone from off island with no self interest or friends / family on the island. Peculiar set of circumstances to warrant the previous statement!

Pete Hoffman may, as you say, " come across as an arrogant, condescending, know it all", but I for one, have had enough of these PAC-funded beauty contests. I'm not personally enamored of Margaret Willie either, but I'd vote for her, simple because she seems competent and trustworthy! Enough of this high school prom queen stuff. Can we really afford to be hornswoggled by yet another ingratiating sociopath ... or worse?
