Does anyone know if there is a way to ship a car to Hilo from Portland?

We shipped a car 10 years ago, it was pretty easy. Call Matson (or google around, there are other services, but I think they all just take the car to Matson anyway). You'll take the car to the docks in Portland (PORTland has to have docks, right?), leave the keys, pick it up at the docks in Hilo.
FYI: you can't pack the car full of stuff because
a) they won't accept it, and
b) you'd get it back empty

No stuff, just a car. Portland is a big port city with lots of shipping, I've just never seen anyone here post about shipping from Portland, it is always the California ports.

Got mine from Oakland to Honolulu for free (brothers a Matson container captain with a car garage). Had to pay $250 for the the inter-island portion. []

From Hilo to Honolulu your only option is Young Brothers. From Honolulu your options are Pasha, Horizon, and Matson.

oops, I thought you meant Portland to Hilo, not the other way around.
Most cars seem to be worth more here, might be more cost effective to sell, and buy a different one on the mainland.

I thought I was clear:
I want to ship a car from Portland to Hilo, not from Oakland, LA or Seattle, but from Portland to Hilo. I don't have any family that works for Matson so the free ride macuu222 was bragging about isn't an option. No wonder the rest of us have to pay so much if they offer free freight to extended family of employees.

you might have been clear but did you already contact Pasha or Matson? best bet would be to start with the folks who actually ship cars.

http://www.matson.com/pov/booking/shipping_rates.htm shows Matson's car shipping rates, but they only ship out of CA and Seattle. How does Seattle work for you?
