good news: less cruise ships for 2008
#1
according to several reports lately it seems like cruise ship visits will go down by about a third next year. this should translate into less helicopter over flights, at least it would seem so.

I heard that the reason why cruise ships are pulling out of the hawaii market is because its too expensive to operate here. The average person can't afford th prices that businesses charge tourists for just about everything. Thats why when the boats come into port...they all take the tour buses to Walmart.

The Carribean cruises are now becoming much more popular and affordable.

well carol I guess I wasn't talkin about them. But I would be happy never to see one of those (stupid human tricks) in the harbor of Hilo ever again.
Floating tributes to excess, gluttony, drunkeness, spending of $$$$$ on a bunch of junk. Walmart, (hawaiian) trinkets, because they're so profit consious the tourists can't afford anything but walmart. get rid of them both! I lived without a walmart here, didn't have a problem then. No need for das boat either.

The State will lose tens of millions of dollars due to this decision.

Another hit to the economy of Hawaii.

The tourist industry in Hawaii drives the states economy. If the tourists don't come...then the citizens of the state will make up the shortfall with increased taxes.

The cruise ships to Hilo are also being reduced because the lava show that has been running into the ocean on this side of the island for the past 25 years has stop. There isn't even a red glow anymore. And I believe that was what many tourists wanted to see.
